How To Care For Your S&B Products

From the very beginning there has always been a desire to strike a balance between both the beautiful and practical at Summerill & Bishop.
So, we wanted to take the time to share with you how to care for some of our favourite products.

Washing Linens
You can wash your linen tablecloth, napkins or tea towels at up to 60 degrees, on a regular cycle. Our linens are always surrounded by people at the table, so prefer a little alone time in your washing machine drum.
If you’d like, there’s also the option to use a lower temperature (40 degrees) cycle. Please don’t make the cycle too long or use Eco cycle. These linens do not respond well to being left soaking in water, hot or cold, for more than 10 minutes in water.
For the darker colours we suggest washing the napkins and tablecloths together, so if there is any fading over time they all still match.
Tumble dry to get the crushed effect; 70 degrees for a softer effect, 90 degrees for a more crushed finishing.
No conditioner is needed but can be used, it’s entirely up to you. However, bare in mind that condition can fix some stains to the fabric.

Removing Stains From Linens
We know stains are an inevitable part of life around the table. If your linen gets a particularly bad stain you can put soap directly on to the fabric, and leave it for 5 minutes before washing.
Do not use Vanish or other stain removing/whitening products. They will coat the colour of your cloth with a pale layer of white, and may cause colours to run into each other.
Please do not use any aggressive product on the material.
And remember the S&B philosophy is that every stain tells a story, and holds a memory, so if stain removal fails, just embrace them as part of your history.

S&B Red Wine & White Wine Glasses
These are S&B essentials! The Plain Rim glasses are dishwasher safe, however, as the lip of these glasses are thin we do recommend hand washing them. If you do put them in the dishwasher, please allow plenty of space between glasses so they don't rattle against each other.
Because the rims of the Gold glasses have been painted by hand, they are not dishwasher safe. Please hand wash only.

Bumba & Clair Glasses
Our hand blown Bumba tumblers can be put in the dishwasher, however we recommend loading carefully and ensuring that nothing can fall on them during the wash cycle. If in doubt hand wash, after all, they are very special.

Bumba & Clair Pitcher
Please only hand wash the Bumba Jugs.

S&B Ceramics
Most of the S&B hand made porcelain ceramics are both dishwasher and microwave safe. However, we do not recommend putting the S&B Handmade 43cm Porcelain Extra Large Salad Bowl with Gold Glaze in either. Hand washing this particular bowl will help ensure the gold glaze stays as lustrous for as long as possible.
Again load your dishwasher carefully to avoid chipping from other items during the wash cycle.

Astier de Villatte
Please only hand wash Astier de Villatte pieces, they are VERY special!
