Gather Round

Gather Round

While it may look effortlessly beautiful, the creation of this tablecloth is anything BUT simple. The S&B team worked closely with John’s decoupage archive to bring each detail to life on linen. Years of research and design precision went into arranging cascading flowers into a perfect circular pattern that drops millimeters from the bottom. The engineering of the linen’s weft and warp, accounting for natural shrinkage, and the meticulous printing process are what elevate this piece from a tablecloth to a true objet d’art. Only by appreciating this process can the full luxury of the tablecloth be understood.

This new round design invites closeness and conversation. To us, a round tablecloth means everyone is seated equally, with no head of the table. It is a table without corners, made for gathering and sharing stories.

Across its surface, a meadow unfolds: Yellow-Horned Poppy, Purple Foxglove, Honeysuckle, Wild Hyacinth, Periwinkle, Crab Apple, and Everlasting Pea. All petals, stems, and blooms drawn from John Derian’s archive of 18th- and 19th-century botanical decoupage. Each flower brings its own hue and character, together forming a circle of vibrant, natural beauty.

Discover the Design Reimagined in Round

We sat down with Seb Bishop, CEO & Creative Director of Summerill & Bishop, to ask a few special questions:

Why is this tablecloth so special to you?
“This tablecloth represents everything we love about bringing art to the table. From the careful study of John’s decoupage to the technical precision of printing on linen, every step celebrates craftsmanship. The round format removes hierarchy at the table, it’s about gathering, sharing, and creating moments where everyone feels included and equal.”

What makes the design different from previous collaborations?
“It’s always about finding ways to bring the playfulness of John’s iconic designs in an artful way. The round shape allowed us to experiment with cascading blooms in a truly immersive manner. It’s not just about beauty, it’s about the intimacy and warmth the tablecloth encourages.”

How would you like people to experience it?
“With those you hold dear. Lay the cloth. Place the napkins. Gather round. Let the flowers and the design spark conversation and joy. It’s a table where nature’s poetry takes centre stage.”
