Summerill & Bishop x Blackberry Farm

Many months ago, we received a beautiful invitation from a certain Mary Celeste Beall, asking us to collaborate on a collection to commemorate the 50th anniversary of her family business, the exquisite Blackberry Farm. A place which to the initiated, needs no explanation... 

The friendship that has ensued from this out-of-the-blue note is really quite extraordinary. We are united in the belief that what we create in our time, is never truly ours alone. We are simply custodians of the gatherings, rituals and love that will one day be passed down through generations.

It is this spirit of custodianship, generosity and gracious hospitality that imbues our collaboration. 

'Denim Hydrangea', the first of two exclusive designs, derives its inspiration from well-worn, well-loved and well-lived in, denim. The ubiquitous uniform of twentieth century American labourers and farmers. As soon as we met the inspirational Master Gardener at Blackberry,  John Coykendall, a beloved part of the team for over 50 years, in his signature denim dungarees, we knew this had to be integrated somehow. The design has subtle denim-inspired details; rivets, washed textures and stitching, a gentle tribute to this enduring all American 'uniform': honest, functional and deeply connected to the land. Across this denim-toned base, hydrangeas bloom in soft, abundant layers, as they did across the Farm on our very first visit. 

As always, the collection, a tablecloth and napkin, is crafted from 100% pure French linen.

This is a collection for those who believe that the table is not simply where we eat, but where we celebrate, comfort, remember and come together.

We hope Denim Hydrangea inspires you to gather your own friends and family around the table, to mark life’s occasions, both great and small, for years to come. Discover the second design in Meanderings very soon.
