Description

Upon a ground of chiaroscuro, an abundance of flowers in chalky, hushed tones bloom triumphantly; tulips bow with a quiet, knowing grace and poppies peer out from behind a clutch of romantic roses. Each stem and leaf is a gentle reminder that all things flourish and fade, yet in art, they remain luminous forever. With reverence to the golden age of the Dutch Masters, the palette of this design is deep and deliberate to bring a little drama to the table.

This placemat is part of our wider 'Still Life 1815' collection which also includes a tablecloth, available in three sizes and a matching napkin on 100% pure French linen.

Choose from one of our other signature designs including Dahlia, Falling Flower, Stripes, Nuages, La Piscine, Marble, and Mimosa. Each placemat is a simple, long-lasting and convenient way to complement your tabletop curation.

Expertly crafted in England and manufactured with a sustainably sourced Eucalyptus base. Finished with a wipeable high-gloss melamine finish.

About Us

Founded by the late June Summerill and Bernadette Bishop, two great friends with a truly effortless and unique sense of style, Summerill & Bishop first opened its doors on 18th May, 1994 in Holland Park, and has remained on the same quiet, leafy corner of Clarendon Cross ever since.

Fantastic home cooks and entertainers both, June and Bernadette were frustrated with the offerings at most kitchen and tableware shops at the time, and with the lack of personality and intimacy, so they decided to create one of their own, where beauty and functionality would both be key.

At Summerill & Bishop we believe that if people take the time to lay the table and present a meal beautifully, they'll enjoy it all the more and create a lasting memory for those who share it with them.

For us, laying the table is an art form that we can all master at home and is one of the simplest ways to tell someone what they mean to you. The table isn't just a place to pass food, you pass tradition, memory, and love, too. Read our full story here...

The story

This collection draws its essence from the timeless beauty of the Dutch Golden Age, echoing the luminous still lifes of some of its most notable artists. A rich, shadow-kissed background is paired with an intricate floral composition reminiscent of the opulent bouquets painted at the time, where every petal felt alive with texture and depth. Tulips, peonies and wild blossoms unfold across the linen in a dramatic yet harmonious arrangement, capturing the romance of a candlelit supper and the quiet poetry of nature in bloom. The result is a collection that transforms the everyday table into a scene worthy of a masterpiece.
