The Rosé Hour

Our home away from home is all sun-warmed stone, wild herbs and the scent of pine drifting down toward the sea. The air tastes faintly of salt; cicadas whir in the heat and bougainvillea spills over aged walls in bursts of blush.

 By late afternoon, the Mediterranean turns impossibly blue, while the hills glow gold and the whole peninsula slows down. This is the hour for rosé à la piscine, the French art of enjoying a rather generous glass of chilled rosé poured over ice.

Our table is set beneath a shaded canopy, its stripes echoing the sun, sea and sky. Bottles of rosé await their pour, clinking upon ice cubes as the afternoon stretches toward aperitif hour...
