Planted in the Arizona desert, surrounded by giant cactuses with amazing shapes, stands Tucson. Wander downtown, along streets lined by colourful houses.

Crushed by the heat, take a break in the shadow of a mesquite, watered by a little glass of mezcal.

Intoxicating scents of the Far West float in the air: lightly smokey and sweet aromas of wild grasses, parched wood, immortelle flowers, and red earth, burnt by the sun.

Nestled in a 'Peggy' Footed dish, with its delicate scalloped edge, it makes a sophisticated gift for a loved one to display in their home.

Care Instructions

Due to the exquisite nature of this product, we recommend to hand wash only.

At no time should any burning candle be left unattended and do not burn one for more than 3 consecutive hours. Keep lit candles out of reach of children and pets. Keep the wick trimmed to 5 – 6mm long at all times, this length should be maintained throughout the burning process. Ensure that the wick maintains its central position. Extinguish any candle that smokes excessively. Do not burn a candle on a flammable or fragile surface, and never burn a candle all the way through to the bottom. Once only 1 cm of wax remains, blow out the candle and let it fully cool before safely discarding it.

About Us

Founded by the late June Summerill and Bernadette Bishop, two great friends with a truly effortless and unique sense of style, Summerill & Bishop first opened its doors on 18th May, 1994 in Holland Park, and has remained on the same quiet, leafy corner of Clarendon Cross ever since.

Fantastic home cooks and entertainers both, June and Bernadette were frustrated with the offerings at most kitchen and tableware shops at the time, and with the lack of personality and intimacy, so they decided to create one of their own, where beauty and functionality would both be key.

At Summerill & Bishop we believe that if people take the time to lay the table and present a meal beautifully, they'll enjoy it all the more and create a lasting memory for those who share it with them.

For us, laying the table is an art form that we can all master at home and is one of the simplest ways to tell someone what they mean to you. The table isn't just a place to pass food, you pass tradition, memory, and love, too. Read our full story here...

The story

We are longtime collectors of Astier de Villatte’s 18th and 19th century-inspired designs that are imbued with an elegant nostalgia and often, an offbeat sense of humour. Handmade in Paris by Tibetan artisans, these pieces are crafted from black terracotta using a special technique which leaves deliberate imperfections on the surface and are transformed by a milky white glaze. Delicate though they might be, these pieces are extremely durable and make wonderful decorative tableware.
