Description

Handcrafted from terracotta, the Lady Clover Jug is decorated with white slip and glazed by hand in a rich, avocado green, before being overdrawn with ceramic pencils.

The imagery takes its cues from 19th-century faience and 18th-century French playing cards: a figure holds a billet doux on either side, while roses spill from garden urns around them. Hidden amongst the flowers is a four-leaved clover, a little secret for luck.

Use it for water at the table, for flowers from the garden, or simply let it sit somewhere where it can be admired. Its individual shape and painted decoration make it a particularly characterful addition to a collection of handmade ceramics.

Care Instructions

These ceramics are made for gentle, everyday enjoyment. As with traditional earthenware, handmade pieces can be more porous than stoneware or porcelain. We recommend washing gently by hand in warm soapy water and taking care when placing pieces on precious surfaces.

Not dishwasher safe.

About Us

Founded by the late June Summerill and Bernadette Bishop, two great friends with a truly effortless and unique sense of style, Summerill & Bishop first opened its doors on 18th May, 1994 in Holland Park, and has remained on the same quiet, leafy corner of Clarendon Cross ever since.

Fantastic home cooks and entertainers both, June and Bernadette were frustrated with the offerings at most kitchen and tableware shops at the time, and with the lack of personality and intimacy, so they decided to create one of their own, where beauty and functionality would both be key.

At Summerill & Bishop we believe that if people take the time to lay the table and present a meal beautifully, they'll enjoy it all the more and create a lasting memory for those who share it with them.

For us, laying the table is an art form that we can all master at home and is one of the simplest ways to tell someone what they mean to you. The table isn't just a place to pass food, you pass tradition, memory, and love, too. Read our full story here...

The story

A collection of handcrafted and hand painted ceramics, created exclusively for Summerill & Bishop.

Lady Clover is an exclusive collection of handcrafted and hand-painted ceramics, created especially for us in our much-loved and signature Avocado Green colourway. A little whimsical, a little eccentric and very much at home around the table, the collection brings together a series of shapes dreamed up for Summerill & Bishop.

The hand of the maker is very much at the heart of this collection’s story. The platters, vases and jugs are built by hand before being individually decorated, so no two pieces are quite the same. The marks, variations and small irregularities that come from making something by hand give each piece its character.

The collection invites you into a world of leafy forms, colours lifted straight from the garden and playful figures, translated into ceramics with a distinctly English sensibility.
