S&B x Solange "Hotlips" Napkin Ring
What do the moments before the lead up to a kiss and setting the table have in common?
We riddle you not - in both acts, the beauty lies in the in-between, the pause before something meaningful happens. Both are moments of anticipation and intention, where you create space for connection and care, intimacy, and emotion.
This inspiration instils our latest debut - a collaboration with our long-time friend, whose inimitable lips now pucker atop our plates!
S&B x Solange present the Hotlips Napkin Ring, a playful new guest to the table. Sculptural, sensual and with a big personality, this new addition to our tabletop wardrobe is ready to make your setting unforgettable.

S&B: This isn’t our first collaboration together, we first came together in 2016 to create our iconic linen collection. What excited you about returning to the table for this new Hotlips napkin ring collaboration?
Solange: Our first collaboration felt like the start of a story. Summerill & Bishop has this effortless, joyful way of dressing a table, and I love the idea that the dining table can be a creative space and as expressive as jewellery.
S&B: The Hotlips motif is playful, bold and unmistakably you. How did you approach translating this jewellery icon into a functional yet artful piece for the dining table?
Solange: Hotlips has always been a statement - sealed with a loving kiss. Bringing it to the table gives it a new iteration. The napkin ring sits at the heart of a gathering. It’s tactile, sculptural and fun… it’s a way to make people smile and add to the joy of the occasion.
S&B: Summerill & Bishop celebrates creativity and joy at the table. What does the act of setting a table mean to you personally, and how do you see your designs enhancing that experience?
Solange: Setting the table is a form of theatre. It's atmosphere, anticipation and mood. My designs are about injecting a bit of fantasy and magic into something familiar. A table dressed with personality adds a celebratory feel. Whether it's for cheese on toast or a lobster Thermidor.
S&B: The napkin ring is both decorative and functional, a small object with big personality. How do you hope people will use or experience it when entertaining?
Solange: I hope they play with it, admire it and are amused by it. It's a flirtatious little touch. The best objects make you feel something before you realise why. It could be a conversation starter.
S&B: The festive season is all about gathering and celebration - what are you most looking forward to this year?
Solange: The best bit for me is closing the business for 10 days, slowing down completely and spending time with family and friends.
S&B: How do you like to dress your table when hosting during the holidays, do you have any signature touches or rituals?
Solange: It’s not much different to how I usually do it. My table always looks festive because my crockery and cutlery and glasses are all lovely. A bunch of flowers in the middle, maybe the smaller of the Christmas gifts to open on each plate.
S&B: In your view, what are the key ingredients to making guests feel truly welcome in your home?
Solange: A welcome warmth, good lighting, music, a very strong drink as soon as they arrive, and a sense of freedom and that something exciting might happen. I always try to tell myself people are here to have a good time together, not to judge your home and food. Even decanting a takeaway into your good crockery works. People don’t generally remember what they ate, they remember how they felt.
